microCastle’s first offering of 2023 welcomes Presia to the label for his debut EP. Burgeoning French talent Presia has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of electronic music and indie dance, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. Hailing from the Alpine town of Annecy, Presia’s musical palate takes reference from a legion of genres across the industry’s vast spectrum; creating an authentic voice that is discernibly his own. 2022 proved to be a breakout year for the French talent, with a contribution to Isolate’s ‘Mutations’ collection preceding a five-track showcase for the Turkish imprint in July. Support from industry tastemakers soon followed as did an EP for Avidus’ Empore Music to end the year. Now, for his first project of 2023, Presia makes his microCastle debut with a four-track showcase entitled ‘First Time’.

EP opener ‘Brizz’ immediately captivates with its rubbery rhythms, glossy melodies and prismatic haze. Colours blur together as the springy bass and gauzy synths propel forward into a tastefully twisted interlude, one where fuzz and distortion unite, as the groove erupts alongside a furious march of metallic arps. The space-dance foray ‘The Path’ follows and further cements Presia’s dancefloor minded ethos. A collection of recalibrated sonics and emotionally resonant hooks highlight a retro-tinged, acid-laced first movement, perfectly whetting the appetite for a break of flickering sonics and granular flares.

Beneath the hypnagogic waves of ‘The Path’ lies the starry guitars and neo-saccharine drive of ‘Cash’. A cohesive fusion of indie and melodic themes, anchored by rocketing beats and percussive rides, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of woozy guitars and soaring synths. Its soulful pulse proves to be the perfect prelude for the collection's final and title selection, the summery set closing record 'First Time'. Building with a subdued pulse, its wonky disorienting lead quickly catches hold of you, flowing through an exchange of free-form effects, as plucky stabs and pneumatic tones transfer energy into a finale of speaker-buzzing revelry.
